About LoreTag
LoreTag is a small, independent fan project that helps players name their World of Warcraft: Forever characters. It exists because Forever changed how names work. Every character now needs a first name and a second name, the full pair has to be unique across a whole region, and the familiar trick of moving to a quieter realm for a taken name is gone. Picking a name became a small planning problem, and we wanted a tool built specifically for it.
How the names are made
Every name on LoreTag comes from our own syllable lists. Each race has its own set of opening syllables, linking syllables and endings for first names, plus two halves for surnames grouped by meaning: nature, weapon, family and craft. The generator combines them, scores the result for readability (no long consonant clusters, a natural balance of vowels, 4 to 12 letters) and discards anything that fails the naming rules or matches our list of restricted words and well-known character names.
We do not copy name lists from other sites and we do not use any data taken from the game client. The syllables are written by hand to match the sound each race has in the wider Warcraft world: hard clan names for orcs, long moonlit names for night elves, rolling names for tauren. The same code runs on our server and in your browser, so the names you see when a page loads are exactly the ones the tool produces.
How we keep the rules accurate
The WoW Forever naming rules page separates what Blizzard has confirmed from what beta coverage has reported, and lists the date we last checked. When the live game shows a rule working differently, we update the page and the checker together. LoreTag can tell you whether a name is allowed. It cannot tell you whether another player already has it, and we never claim otherwise.
