WoW Forever Name Reservation

How WoW Forever name reservation works for WoW Forever, who can use it, and how to lock in a first and last name nobody else has.

WoW Forever launches

5 days and 9 hours to go.

Early Name Reservation is open until the end of November 3 (Pacific time).

How WoW Forever name reservation works

  1. Buy an eligible WoW Forever upgrade. Blizzard limits reservation to eligible upgrade purchases; guides report that every upgrade edition qualifies and allows up to three characters.
  2. Log in between October 27 and November 3, 2026. Reservation is first come, first served, so earlier is better for common names.
  3. Create the character: race, class, a first name and a second name. The full pair is what you reserve, and it must be unique across your region.
  4. Wait for launch. Reserved characters are ready when WoW Forever opens on November 4 at 3:00 PM Pacific time.

Three strategies to get the name you want

Pick the surname first

First names can repeat; the pair cannot. A rare surname makes almost any first name available, so decide on the surname before you get attached to a first name. The WoW Forever surname generator gives you ideas by race.

Prepare backups for every character

With up to three early characters, write down two spare pairs for each one before you log in. Typing a backup takes seconds; thinking of a new name under pressure takes much longer.

Avoid the obvious names

Lore characters, famous player names, and single common words such as Shadow or Storm will be among the first pairs taken, and names that impersonate well-known characters can be refused anyway.

Common mistakes

  • Reusing a famous surname. A shared surname is fine, but a famous first name plus a famous surname is the pair everyone tries.
  • Special characters. Numbers, symbols and spaces are not allowed, and apostrophes and hyphens are reported to be rejected.
  • Breaking the naming rules. Names over 12 characters per part, mixed capitals or a letter three times in a row will not go through. Check them against the WoW Forever naming rules first.
