Orc names in WoW Forever come in two parts, and the second part is where your clan lives. A first name like Grozgar can be shared by many players across the region, but Grozgar Axefist can only belong to one. The generator below pairs short, growled first names with surnames built from deeds, weapons and clan history, then checks every pair against the Forever naming rules. For orc names outside Forever, try the orc name generator.
Orcish first names are built for shouting across a battlefield. Most are one or two syllables with a hard stop at each end: Grom, Thrak, Durg, Karg. The vowels are low and open (a, o, u), and the consonants come in heavy clusters such as gr, kr, thr and zh. Endings like -gar, -thak, -rok, -gul and -mash give the name its weight. A long elegant name with soft l and y sounds reads as wrong for an orc, which is why the generator never mixes elven syllables into this list.
Orc surnames are earned rather than inherited, at least in the stories players tell. The classic pattern is a compound of two plain English words: something the orc carries or does (Axe, Skull, Blood, Doom) joined to a body part or an act (fist, maw, splitter, howl). That gives names like Bloodfist, Skullsplitter or Ashmaw. Clan-style surnames work too, built from places and elements such as Stone, Thunder, Dust and Frost, which suit shamans and hunters better than the weapon names.
Because Forever lets players hide their second name, a few orcs will pick something quiet for the surname and save the menace for the first name. The opposite works better on a crowded realm: an ordinary first name like Mog or Nar paired with a vivid surname such as Ironsnarl is easier to remember in group chat and far less likely to be taken.
Avoid copying the famous clans and heroes directly. Names that match well-known characters are reported to be rejected or renamed, and they are the first combinations other players will try. Building your own compound from the same ingredients keeps the feel without the collision.
In WoW Forever an orc character has two names, and Blizzard checks the full pair for uniqueness across your region instead of within one realm. Two orcs can both be called Karg. Only one can be Karg Doomhowl. Both names have to follow the code of conduct, and the system evaluates them together, so splitting a banned word across the first and last name will not get it through.
Orcs remain a Horde race in Forever. Guides covering the beta report that Forever adds new race and class combinations, including the orc mage, so arcane-sounding surnames built from Rune, Hex or Pyre now fit an orc character as well as the warrior and shaman classics. The class menu in the generator above follows the Forever class list for orcs.
If you are planning a main for launch day, settle the surname first and keep two or three spares. A strong first name is easy to reuse; the pair is what has to be free when you press Create.
The full list of confirmed and reported limits is on the WoW Forever naming rules page, and the WoW Forever surname generator gives you more last names for this race.
