Gnome names in WoW Forever are short, bouncy and a little bit silly, and the surname usually sounds like a gadget that might explode. Forever gives every gnome a first and a second name and checks the full pair for uniqueness across your region. The generator below builds gnome names from original syllables and tinker words, and every pair it shows passes the Forever naming rules. For gnome names outside Forever, try the gnome name generator.
Gnome first names are clipped and quick. Most are two short syllables with a z, x, b, p or k somewhere in them: Fizbin, Nixle, Tobbo, Wizzik, Pipkin. The endings carry the personality: -zle, -kle, -bin and -wick sound like a tinkerer, while -xie, -ny and -bo sound younger and friendlier. Gnome names almost never use heavy clusters like thr or gr; if a name feels as if it needs a beard, it belongs to a dwarf.
Gnome surnames are compounds of invention. The first half is a part, a spark or a sound (Cog, Gear, Spark, Fizz, Sprocket, Bolt, Whistle) and the second is another part or an action: spinner, wrench, twist, bonk, crank. Cogspinner, Fizzwhistle and Sprocketbonk all follow the pattern, and so do the gentler family names built from doubled syllables such as Fiddledoodle or Wobblewick.
Class steers the result. Mages and warlocks suit spark, static and circuit words. Warriors and rogues suit tools that hit things: Wrench, Hammer, Drill. The new gnome priest, reported by beta guides, is a good excuse for the softer family names, which make a healer sound approachable rather than dangerous.
Gnome humour is part of the race, so the Funny & troll tone fits gnomes better than most. Just remember that Roleplay realms expect believable names; there the generator switches back to lore-accurate gnome names automatically.
Forever replaces the one-name-per-realm system with a first name and a second name, unique as a pair across the region. Gnome first names are so short that many players will share them, so the surname is what secures your character. Pick a tinker surname you like and reuse it for alts.
Gnomes remain an Alliance race. Guides covering the beta report that Forever adds the gnome priest, alongside the classic warrior, rogue, mage and warlock. The class menu in the generator follows that list.
Each name is letters only and 2 to 12 characters. Gnome names love doubled letters, which is fine, but beta coverage reports that a letter may not appear three times in a row: Fizzz will not work, Fizz will.
Both parts are evaluated together for restricted words, so a joke that relies on splitting a blocked word across the first and last name will not get through.
Think about how the name will be typed. Gnome names are often invited, whispered and called out in group chat, and a seven-letter first name with one doubled letter is much easier for other players than a long string of z and x. If you love a long tinker surname, pair it with a short first name so the whole thing stays readable on a nameplate. A short first name also gives you room to reuse the same surname across a family of gnome alts, which Forever allows because each full pair is still unique.
